Converse (/knvrs/) is an American shoe company that designs, distributes, and licences footwear, apparel, and accessories, including sneakers, skate shoes, and lifestyle brand footwear, apparel, and accessories. Converse is headquartered in New York City. Since 2003, it has operated as a subsidiary of Nike, Inc., which was founded in 1908.

While the United States was engaged in World War II, Converse shifted its manufacturing to produce footwear for the military. It was one of the few manufacturers of athletic shoes in the world, and the company dominated the American athletic shoe market for more than half a century. As competitors introduced their own styles beginning in the 1970s, the company’s dominant position began to erode.

In today’s market, the Converse, Cons, Chuck Taylor All-Star (“Chucks”), Jack Purcell, One Star, and Star Chevron trademarks are among the products available under the company’s portfolio. Converse collaborates with other brands, such as John Varvatos, on limited-edition product releases on a regular basis. There are several characteristics that distinguish Converse shoes, including the company’s star insignia, the All Star’s rubber sole, smooth rounded toe, and a wrap-around strip around the heel.

While the Classics have a noticeable lighter overall weight than the 70s, it is interesting to note that the heel counter is significantly stiffer than the 70s. This should assist in maintaining the shape of the shoes over time.

The Converse Chuck Taylor All Star Core Ox is a reinterpretation of the classic Converse All Star Oxford, which first appeared in the 1950s and has been in production since then. Currently, the brand makes use of environmentally friendly materials such as organic and recycled cotton, as well as polyester.
