With Summer officially over, September is the perfect time to reacquaint yourself with your sofa and the TV remote. And luckily for you, this September, Sky and NOW have got you covered with a bunch of brand-new TV shows and movies to keep you entertained all month long.
But it’s not just Sky & NOW that are bringing you new TV this September. Over on Netflix, Nicole Kidman stars in The Perfect Couple, a brand-new six-part series based on the hit novel by Elin Hilderbrand, and Part Deux of Emily in Paris S4 lands on 12 September. On Apple TV, Gary Oldman returns as spook Jackson Lamb for the highly anticipated fourth season of Slow Horses. And on BBC, September also sees the return of everyone’s favourite dance competition Strictly Come Dancing, with a brand-new set of celebrities taking to the dance floor to battle it out for the coveted glitterball trophy.
And on Sky & NOW? This month sees the Brassic gang return for more heists and hijinks as Series 6 lands on the platform. Also arriving this September is prestige drama series The Penguin which sees Colin Farrell star as the title character, reprising his role from the film.
1. The Penguin
The next chapter in The Batman saga arrives this month. With Colin Farrell reprising his role as Oz Cobb (aka “The Penguin”) in the eight-episode DC Studios drama series that continues the epic crime saga that filmmaker Matt Reeves began with the hit movie The Batman and centres on the titular gangster as he moves to become the kingpin of Gotham City’s underworld.

2. Brassic S6
The Brassic gang are back with as much wild adventure and hilarity as ever. Reeling from the explosive encounter with Manolito, they set about getting their lives back in order. But the landscape is changing, people are getting older and the question of growing up looms in the air. Series six is a madcap journey involving man-eating crocodiles, bigamists, and a naked cult. The MacDonagh’s are creating trouble again, stepping it up a gear as they get high on new-found power. And amongst all this, they’re taken on an emotional rollercoaster with some heartfelt goodbyes and new love interests on the horizon.

Funny Woman returns for its second series which finds Sophie – played by Gemma Arterton – on a high. She is the nation’s favourite TV comedy star, she’s got a group of good friends and her romance with Dennis is full of promise. But trouble is just around the corner… Dennis’s divorce will take three years, Sophie’s new sitcom flops, and she uncovers a devastating family secret. So, Sophie takes a leading role in a film opposite a glamorous French movie heartthrob to escape the turmoil and ends up being offered a fresh start in Hollywood by her new US agent. But Sophie returns to London, determined to get the gang back together and to create a new show which reflects her real life and challenges outdated cultural conventions.

4. Black Widow
If you’re a true crime fan, then this is one series you won’t want to miss. This three-part series follows the decade-long police investigation into Dena Thompson, known as ‘The Black Widow’, who spent 20 years carrying out a sustained campaign of fraud, deception, bigamy, and murder. She was able to coerce a succession of husbands and lovers into giving up their life savings, homes, families, and freedom before she was finally caught in 2003 and convicted for murder. After 19 years behind bars, she has been released but her victims are still struggling to understand what happened to them. Featuring first-hand testimony from those affected and with exclusive access to her first husband, this series will delve into ‘The Black Widow’.

5. The Sopranos
2024 marks 25 years since iconic mob TV series The Sopranos landed on our screens. The series sees James Gandolfini play mob boss Tony Soprano, who seeks the help of a psychiatrist when he struggles to manage his criminal and family life. What better way to mark this iconic anniversary than to reacquaint yourself with (or introduce yourself to) Tony Soprano and his mafia kingdom.
