About The Whisky Exchange
Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh started as assistants in their parents’ wine and spirits retailer business, ‘The Nest’ established in Hanwell. This is a family business which started in the drinks business in 1972 and was given the ‘Off-Licence of the Year’ award in 1992. Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh have been serving the retail industry throughout their lifetimes.
Sukhinder, the elder of the two brothers, had already started collecting quite a number of whiskies by the mid-1990s. He had started collecting miniature bottles of whisky in the mid-1980s and then started collecting normal sized bottles of whisky a few years down the line.
Scotch Whisky Made From Grains By The Whisky Exchange
The Whisky Exchange’s Grain Scotch Whisky is an interesting and, at times, overlooked view on Scotch whisky. Grain whisky is less heavier and less sweet as compared to malt whiskies, it is produced from grains such as wheat, corn, or barley. These whiskies are presented at The Whisky Exchange in large variety, and each of them represents a perfect balance of flavours.
As a beginner’s whisky or the whisky for the enthusiast, grain Scotch whisky is easy to approach and offers an opportunity to enjoy a whisky with a sweet taste, hints of vanilla, and toffee with a slight fruitiness. This is ideal for drinking on the rocks, neat, or in any of your favourite whisky based cocktails.
Haig Club Clubman
The second expression of the David Beckham-owned whisky company, Haig Club Clubman, aims to be a chic entry point into the Scotch whisky world. This is the youngest of the range and is bottled entirely from Bourbon casks; it’s sweet and full of vanilla and coconut to make it very approachable.
Due to its smoothness and mellow taste, it can be considered a perfect substitute for Jack Daniel’s,, especially when mixed with cola. Due to its stylish packaging and easy-to-approach taste, Haig Club Clubman is a great whisky for those who are ready to taste whisky in a more contemporary and tasty manner.
Loch Lomond Peated Single Grain
To come up with a whisky that would be quite distinct, Loch Lomond Peated Single Grain combines the single grain with the peat flavour. The foundation of this expression is deep and full-bodied and has primary accented flavours of soft fruits and creamy vanilla.
This expression is a combination of an unusual taste profile through and through. The finish has a slightly smoky flavor thanks to the heathery peat and light smoke notes that add another dimension. This is a unique option for those, who like the taste of grain whisky and the earthiness of the peat, which makes it perfect for drinking as it is, as well as for mixing in a cocktail that has been made.
Strathcolm Extra Special
Strathcolm Extra Special is a classy single-grain Scotch whisky, that has been aged to perfection in the ex-bourbon barrels, giving it a unique flavour profile. This whisky is a grain whisky through and through, light and floral, with a very gentle taste. The addition of the Bourbon barrels gives it an extra dimension of flavour that is a mix of warm spice, toffee, and creamy vanilla.
This leads to a very balanced and easy-to-approach whisky, which is perfect for those that enjoy a whisky with some taste but not too powerful. It is a satisfactory taste on its own but if used in a cocktail, it brings about a different and more complex flavour.
Arbikie Highland Rye 1794-2021 Release
The 2021 released Arbikie 1794 Highland Rye is a single grain Scotch whisky that offers a refined and complex taste profile that is the result of a lot of hard work and a carefully selected combination of ingredients. Made from Arantes rye, malted Odyssey barley, and Viscount wheat, this whisky is unique in its taste and character, which is enhanced by the virgin American oak casks used in its maturation process. At its best, on the nose, it offers the smell of fresh cloves, caraway, leather, and pipe tobacco, which makes it very interesting.
This sensory journey is then followed by the palate, which enjoys layers of black tea, honey, and a mere whisper of caraway. With this release, there is a perfect blend of conventional and progressive features that makes it a unique recommendation for whisky lovers who are on the lookout for an elegant dram.
